Rodney Bowsher writes poetry, short stories and memoirs from the tranquil surroundings of his Devon cottage at the foot of the Raddon Hills. He is a regular performer at Taking the Mic sessions in Exeter and contributes poems to The Brooke, his village magazine. His work can also be seen on Raddon Lines, a local literary site at www.raddonlines.co.uk He believes his writing has been informed by first-hand experience in a variety of jobs. He has been a soldier, musician, salesman, mini-cab driver, retail assistant manager, mature student, bookseller and primary schoolteacher. His hobbies have included keyboard jazz, golf, sea-fishing, watching horse-racing, and clay-pigeon shooting. Now retired, he is drawing on his past, to 'empty the bucket' and further develop his creative writing skills. His ambitions are simple: he hopes readers will enjoy his work.

Poignant and wry

This poet 's wry and occasionally cheeky observations underpin a mature understanding of life: both the connections and the apart-ness of human interactions, and the odd bits of memory that resonate in later years ("Photographic Memory," "Long Ago"). Some are simply done, but their effect remained with me long after reading them. Mr. Bowsher is skilled at capturing and savoring life's simple pleasures. Well worth a read.

Update for use on Windows 8.1 ASAP!!!!!

Can only access the kindle version via my android phone (HTC One [older version]) or my android tablet (which doesn't charge/hold a charge any longer.) Cannot use it on the device I would prefer to use it on, which is my touch screen laptop that has Windows 8.1 installed. This is not a very good thing for amazon to do, considering most people who get a kindle text book use it on their computers in class, and most of those are either using Windows 8.1 or Windows 7. Unsure if Mac users have the same issue (I do not use Apple products at all).

PS Also cannot get access to it on my actual Kindle device, what is up with that?!?!

Mark Briggs is the author of "Journalism 2.0" and "Entrepreneurial Journalism" and maintains a widely read blog at www.journalism20.com/blog. He is a frequent speaker and presenter at journalism, media and technology conferences throughout the United States and overseas. He is currently the director of digital media at KING-TV in Seattle, and he previously served as assistant managing editor for Interactive News at The News Tribune in Tacoma, Wash., and as new-media director at The Herald in Everett, Wash. He earned journalism degrees from Gonzaga University and the University of North Carolina and was an adjunct professor at Seattle University from 2002 to 2006 and a Ford Fellow for Entrepreneurial Journalism at The Poynter Institute from 2010 to 2012.

Outstanding practical guide

The industry is changing rapidly, but this second edition is fresh and up-to-date, as of April 2013. As a 30-year print journalist and four-year new-media entrepreneur, I found the hands-on aspects of the book, as well as the resource links, to be invaluable. I appreciate the fact that Briggs included data journalism and online community management in addition to standard blogging, photo, audio and video journalism. As an adjunct journalism instructor, I require it as the main textbook for my multimedia students. The only criticism I have is that maybe the time has come for us longtime journalists to tone down comparisons between the past and now. Those distinctions are becoming irrelevant, especially to a generation of students who know only the world of today and need to prepare for the world of tomorrow.

Highly Recommended for Any Journalist

This book covers the changing landscape of journalism and reporting as we move into the digital age. This book is full of wonderful advice from people who are successful in their own "niches" of journalism.

It also contains a section about technology in general for journalists. Beware: It is extremely simplistic with basics like the definition of gigabyte, how to use FTP, basic HTML.

Personally, I most enjoyed the later chapters with practical tips and advice for making journalistic work more interesting and taking full advantage of the array of new tools available to us.

The book also contains basic advice for choosing digital tools(digital recorders, etc) and preparing content for digital publishing.

Overall, I highly recommend this book for any journalist.

Fantastic book with every Marvel character you can imagine!

This is a fantastic book and was a huge hit with my 8 year old son. He LOVES it! He has another character collection book (Marvel the Avengers - The Ultimate Character Guide) that is tiny in comparison. I'm not a Marvel expert by any stretch of the imagination but I can't imagine any characters that aren’t in here. It has everything...heroes, villians, groups of heroes, groups of villians, “ages” (i.e. Age of Ultron).

For each character, there is an information box that they call a “Factfile”. In the Factfile, they have the characters “real” name (think Peter Parker for Spiderman), their occupation, the location of their base, height, weight, eye color, powers, allies, foes and when they first appeared in the Marvel Comics (Comic name and year) Here is a tiny sampling of what is in the book: A-Bomb, Abomination, Abraxas, Absalon, Absorbing Man, Abyss, Achilles, Acolytes, Action Pack, Acts of Vengeance, Adam-2, Adversary, Aegis, Aero, Aftershock, Agamemnon, Agency X, Agent Axis, Agents of Atlas, Agent X, Agent Zero, Age of Apocalypse, Age of Ultron, Age of X, Agony, Ahab, AIM, Air-Walker, Ajak, Ajax, Albion, Alephs, Aleta, Liz Allan, Alliance of Evil, All-Winners Squad, Alpha, Alpha Flight, Alpha-Stone, Marlene Alraune, Alter Ego, Amatsu-Mikaboshi, Amazons, American Dream, American Eagle, Amphibian, Anachronauts, Anaconda, Anarchist, Ancient One, Andromeda, A-Next, Angar, Angel, Angela, Dirk Anger...and that is just 1/4 of the A’s! It is crazy!

For some of the minor characters, there are multiple characters on one page. There is more space dedicated to the major characters. Spiderman, for example, has 4 pages dedicated to him. One of the pictures attached to this review shows one of the pages as an example.

The characters are all in alphabetical order so between that and a very detailed index (there is a picture attached of one page of the index as an example), it is really easy to find specific characters. If you have a question about whether a specific character is in the book, you can comment below and I will look for you.

If nothing else, the book would make a great weapon. It is huge! It is 439 pages

Awesome book

I received the book the very next afternoon. A need for any Marvel comic book lover. Vast amounts of background stories on the favorites. They have updated some of the pictures and added more to the stories. Even if you own the old Encyclopedia this is a must have

If you're an amateur comic book enthusiast like me then this book is great. It covers quite a few characters and events in the Marvel Universe and the entries vary in length depending on their popularity. This ends up being one of the book's drawbacks too since in the years after the book's publication various characters have gained in popularity yet the book may only contain a brief description for them due to their relative obscurity at the time (Deadpool for example).

Despite its rapid obsolescence and the numerous editing errors which other reviewers have already pointed out, this character encyclopedia is a wonderful coffee table book that will spark conversations and occupy guests for hours. True fanatics may find the book lacking, but it's not meant to be exhaustive. It's a quick-reference conversational piece, and for the beginner or amateur comic book fan a handy educational tool. It's certainly worthy of a place on the living room end table beside the AD&D Monster Manual

Juego de seducci�n

Una novela muy bonita, en que el juego de la seducci�n est� muy bien logrado en el acuerdo que establecen los personajes principales, que incluye s�lo un beso diario al que ella tiene el poder de colocarle fin cada vez. Tiene otros componentes que tambi�n la hacen muy atractiva, como los problemas de seguridad en la mina y las situaciones que se viven por esa causa. Pero lo que m�s me gust� fue el proceso de autoconocimiento de la protagonista durante el transcurso de la historia, quien, enfrentada toda su vida a una educaci�n religiosa al ser hija de un pastor metodista, por fin logra entender y aceptar su propia esencia.

En el pueblo minero de Gales muchas personas son v�ctimas de la miseria y la inresponsabilidad de los nobles. Conciente de ello, Clare Morgan, la maestra del pueblo, decide pedirle al Conde de Aberdare ayuda, conocido tambi�n como el conde gitano. Sin embargo, al conde no le importa lo que que le pase al pueblo y le hace una petici�n inadecuada para que Clare la rechaze, pero ella acepta. Lo que no imagino el conde es que Clare con sus deseos de ayudar al pueblo y su forma particular de ser lo cambiar�a a �l. Al final ella tambi�n cambi� y tuvo que aceptar las dudas que sent�a sobre su fe; as� como tambi�n lo mucho que amaba y deseaba al conde. Es una novela bien escrita. A trav�s de la historia se ven las dudas de los personajes, los cambios en los protagonistas, la aceptaci�n de lo errores del pasado; pero tambi�n se esclarece el misterio que rodea al conde. Definitivamente una de las mejores novelas de Mary Jo Putney.

primera vez que leo un libro de esta autora.es una historia sencilla y muy linda.nicholas es un hombre atormentado despues de cuatro anos todavia recuerda la tragica noche de la muerte de su abuelo y su esposa.clare se dirige al conde para pedirle ayuda para el pueblo ya que el tiene dinero y es conde tiene medios para hacer prosperar a un pueblo en decadencia.el le hace una propocision indecorosa ella tendra que vivir con el tres meses y el ayudara al pueblo.clare deside sacrificar su virtud y reputacion por el bienestar de su pueblo.la historia es muy bonita de como un hombre traicionado por las personas que amaba vuelve a creer en el amor .la recomiendo.

Great Perspective, Backed by Just the Right Juicy Details - Enlightening

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this history book. It focused thousands of years of history by relating major events and changes to questions modern readers can relate to. For example, how did the change from foraging to practicing agriculture affect how humans related to each other? And what changed when cities formed? The authors did an amazing job of processing the latest theories in the history field and presenting them in a tone and style that was not only readable, but smooth and quite entertaining. The book included juicy details, solid academic knowledge, and great perspective. This book was so much more than the presentation of facts and charts -- it was a compelling and academically sound story of what has happened to humanity over time. I highly recommend it.

About the Author
An army brat, James McGee grew up in Gibraltar, Germany and Northern Ireland. He has held a variety of jobs in banking, newspapers, the airline industry and book selling. All of James McGee's book deal with a subject from which I always learn something about our world. Besides a good story, an interesting plot, one can also get educated. Looking forward to reading more of his books. They never disappoint.
